A few years ago, my friend released a Star Trek LCARS theme for home assistant. Since then I've been inspired to try and make LCARS (the fictional "Library Computer Access/Retrieval System" UI of 90s and modern Star Trek) the interface design for all sorts of apps and services I use.
Jellyfin is a free media server for movies, shows, music, books and so much more! It has many plugins and themes to make it behave similar to some of the major streaming platforms.
Now among those themes, I'm happy to introduce: Jellyfin-LCARS!
24th Centuryflix
This is a design overhaul of the default theme to match Star Trek's UI, with large width and mobile device experiences each accounted for.
You can try it out by following the instructions on my Github page.
As noted this requires a separate JavaScript Injector plugin to function properly. Rendering LCARS curves cannot be done reliably with CSS alone, at least as of this post.
If rendering the shapes was the only thing JavaScript was needed for, I would commit to eventually replacing those functions with the CSS
clip-paths property. However, this is also enabling auto initialization, injecting shapes and the color theme selector. All that to say, this is doing a lot more to function properly than CSS alone would be able to cover.
Updates/revisions and a mobile app theme are on the way.
Enjoy, maybe star the project and live long and prosper!
